Rainy Day in Georgia

The view from our hotel room was as good as it got today. It rained and rained all day. The interview for my son went well and then we went to eat cheesecake - and then drove home.

Now we are home just in time for more rain. No problem there as I love rainy nights at home.

Quick Trip

After working at the bridal show all day, I rushed home to pack. Mr. Funny has an interview in Atlanta with a Columbia University representative. Wish him luck!

Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air...

The sun is always appreciated more after a day of rain. And Fridays are always appreciated more after a wild week.

Meet the object of my dog's affection

This is Paula, the rabbit. She is beautiful. She is potty trained. She is soft and cuddly.

No wonder Miss Poopy loves her.

Still, Paula is showing no signs of wanting to hook up with the dog. Obviously, she is intelligent.

And she doesn't whine.

Maybe we need to make a trade.

If the whining doesn't stop, Miss Poopy could be looking for a new home

This is Wednesday's picture and post as I had no computer access that day. Oh, the joys of technology let downs.

She may be cute but she isn't adjusting well to my son's girlfriend's (I used double possessives!) rabbit who is staying with us for a few days. Weirdly, I think Miss Poopy loves the rabbit. She keeps running to the bedroom door (where the rabbit is residing) and whining. When I hold her, she looks in the direction of the bedroom and whines. When she went to bed, she whined. First thing this morning, she ran straight to the rabbit's room and began whining.

For the record, I don't think the rabbit is interested in dating outside her species.

What if tomorrow never comes?

During the holidays, our neighbor across the street died suddenly from a stroke. His wife still has the Christmas tree up and it gave me a reason to pause this evening as I pulled into the driveway.

I think I'll hug my husband extra tight tonight.

Promise of spring

It was a gorgeous day and the skies were unbelievably blue. The Japanese Magnolia is loaded with blooms. I can't wait for spring!

Most of the blossoms on the camellia didn't survive the hard freezes we've had for the past few weeks. I'm ready for the warmer weather heading our way just in time for the three day weekend!

Eat, Drink, Go Home

After a busy day of grade level meetings, reading club and a faculty meeting, I came home to the best husband in the world who had picked up pad thai for dinner. Maybe I should change the sign to "Will kiss for food."

Did I blink?

Today, Mr. Funny got a phone call from a big university far, far away from home. They want to send someone to the sticks to interview him. Then another college called to invite him to an interview to be considered for a scholarship. Then he got an email about another interview appointment for another university and could we meet up in Atlanta?

Part of me is very proud. Another part of me wants to kick those interviewers up for even considering my boy.

When I look at him, I can still see the little boy who wasn't afraid of anything. I guess that part didn't change. How did he grow up so fast?

Life is full of beauty

Happiness is a Warm Sun Spot

After a big lunch at my parents (happy birthday to my step-dad and grandmother!), I went for a freezing 11 mile run. Probably Miss Poopy is smarter than me because she stayed inside and found a sun spot. Then again, I worked off those TWO pieces of cake. Miss Poopy didn't get any cake. So now, who's smarter?

True Blue

Some days, the sky often amazes me by how blue it is. The white bark of the crepe myrtles provides a lovely contrast to the blue, blue sky.

I am reminded that spring will come again. One day.

Garden Ghosts

With the freezing temperatures, most of the containers have been dragged to the greenhouse. The remaining (or the heaviest ones) are covered in hopes that they'll make it through this freaky cold weather.

Sweet Silhouette

There aren't many plants able to survive these freezing temperatures we've had. I don't know what these flowers are but I'm happy they are making it. The flowers were as blue as the sky so I bought them about a month ago. I am always fascinated with blue and green flowers.

Ice skating for birds

Morning duty was a cold blast. Honestly, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if the temperature never dropped past 40 degrees again. Twenty-five degrees is just stupid. Still, it would have been cool to see the birds ice skate.

Puppy Love

So, we eased back into work today. There were no students since it was a teacher in-service day. There were, however, four dogs at work today. My favorite was this 5 week old yellow lab who has been bottle fed since birth. I just love that puppy breath smell.

Frozen Beauty

We had our first hard freeze of the winter. It is supposed to dip into the 20's every night this week. While we rarely get snow (last snowfall was 1993), it is still cold! Since Sunday is my long run day, I waited until afternoon to run in an effort to give the temperature a chance to warm up. I ran my longest to date at 10.7 miles. I'm not bragging, I'm amazed. Though there was a moment when I considered stopping at Hardee's and calling my husband to come pick me up.

Post race meal

Drew and I ran the first 5K of the year in the freezing cold. It was so cold, the grass was frozen. And did I mention, it was cold?! Right after mile two, a little girl in front of me started holding her stomach and crying. I walked with her for a bit but when she was ready to lay down on the road, I put her on my back. We walked that way for a while until we got to the police car who took her to her mother. So.... it wasn't my best time 36:41. But who cares.

Our reward for running in the freezing cold? Fish tacos at my favorite cantina! Now I'm good until tomorrow.
