154/366 Bedtime rituals

Many of you already know about my sweet dog, Mili, and her back issues.  For over 5 years, we've been dealing with the aftermath of her recovery from the surgery to repair her back so that she could walk again.  Even with the surgery, she was only given a 50% chance of ever walking again.  One of the first things we had to do when we brought her home from the surgeon was crate train her.

I know, I know... she probably should have been crate trained from the beginning.  But we just aren't those kind of people.  In fact, before the surgery, Mili had special stairs by the bed to help her get in bed with us.

I miss the days when she burrowed in our bed.

Since we didn't have a crate, some sweet friends of ours let us use a travel crib as their son had already outgrown it.  Five and half years later, I'm fairly certain they won't want it back.

Each night, when we head to the bedroom, Mili scampers in running up to the crib to be picked up and placed inside with her clean towel and blanket.  If the bedding has just come out of the dryer (and we often do that just for her), she gets so excited and runs in circles, slipping and sliding around on the wood floor.

The sound of her little paws on the floors always makes me smile.  It is the sound of hope.

~The picture is of Mili through the netting of the crib.  She was worried that we were kidding about going to bed. ~

Penny sleeps in her crate all day while I'm at school, but at night... she's on my bed. She has a step up stool to get up, but to get down... she jumps. Ack.
